HOLISTIC POSTPARTUM HEALING FOR THE NEW MOTHER - 40 DAYS FOR 40 YEARS
Developed in India over 5,000 years ago, Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest and most comprehensive systems of holistic healing.
It offers a deeply reverent approach to the postpartum period, viewing it as Kayakalpa - a sacred time of renewal and restoration.
Many other traditional cultures share this understanding, including the Chinese Medicine practice of Zuo Yuezi (“the gateway”) and the Mexican Cuarentena, which translates as “quarantine.” Across these traditions, a period of roughly 40 days is honoured as a time for retreat, rest, and recovery after birth.
Often referred to as the Sacred Window, this threshold marks the transition between one way of being and an entirely new existence. It is a profound opportunity for healing, growth, and rejuvenation - when the mother is tended to with intentional care that nourishes the body, mind, senses, and emotions.
Ayurveda teaches that the choices made during the Sacred Window have long-lasting effects, influencing health and vitality for decades to come. This wisdom is captured in the saying “40 days for 40 years,” highlighting postpartum care as a foundational component of lifelong well-being - through motherhood, menopause, and beyond.
In this workshop, you’ll learn about Ayurvedic postpartum wisdom and be guided towards creating a nourished and well-supported Sacred Window of your own.
We’ll explore often-overlooked aspects of postpartum recovery, including the importance of diet and nutrition, warmth, restorative body care, and the essential role of community support.
You’ll have the opportunity to sample postpartum recipes, begin shaping your own postpartum menu plan, and learn a few simple body care practices with profound healing benefits - that a partner, friend, or family member can easily support you with.
